Orissa suffer heavy defeat

Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: Orissa had a bad start to their campaign as they suffered a humiliating eight wickets loss against Haryana in their opening match of the National Visually-impaired T20 cricket tournament at Gurgaon, Thursday.
Put into bat first, Orissa scored 175 for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 20 over with Sukhram Majhi (84) emerging as the highest scorer. He was supported by a watchful innings from Jujhar Barik (32). Deepak Mallick was the pick of the bowlers for Haryana capturing four wickets.
In reply, Haryana had a cakewalk as they knocked off the target in 17.2 overs for the loss of two wickets. Deepak (78) and Chandan (61) hit brilliant half centuries to lead the run chase. Rama Chandra Hansda and Tapan Kumar Gouda bowled well for Orissa to pick up a wicket apiece.
Sudhir qualifies
Sudhir Kumar Nayak of Orissa has qualified for the Visually-Impaired Chess World Cup-2016. He has been selected for the mega event on the basis of his performances in the recently-concluded National Visually-Impaired Chess Championships at Kolkata. Sudhir finished runners-up in the tournament.
“I am elated to be selected for the World Cup. But I need to train properly to taste success in the mega event and huge funds are required for that. I request the government and the corporate sectors to come forward with helping hands so that I can bring laurels for the country,” Sudhir stated.
