BHUBANESWAR: An Oriya artist was among the three Indian painters who participated in a painting exhibition at Nepal’s capital Kathmandu from October 11 to 15. The exhibition was titled The horizon of creation. More than 13 artists from countries like Australia, China, Nepal and India participated in the event. From India, those who took part were Panchanan Samal, artist and principal of the Dhauli College of Art and Crafts; M Ramesh from Hyderabad and BN Hari Prasad from Bangalore. Samal said the artists tried to dwell on the cultures of Nepal and India, which have many similarities. These cultures in
spired each other in many ways, he noted. Samal presented four paintings at the exhibition. He selected the Shiva temples in Nepal as his theme for the paintings. “Lord Shiva is one of the most-worshiped deities in Nepal. The country has some of the famous Shiva temples like the Pashupatinath, the Doelshwar temple, the Gokarna Mahadev temple etc. In fact, in almost every Hindu temple in Nepal, Lord Shiva is usually worshiped. So, in this respect, I had done my paintings based on the temples and depicting the relation of Shiva with his bull, also called Nandi,” he said. In the exhibition Nepal’s prominent artist Kiran Manandhar was the chief guest.
