Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: Oriya feature film ‘Capital I’ has been selected for showing at the 20th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) scheduled to be held at Thiruvananthapuram from December 4–11. It is the only Oriya film to be screened at the festival and is one among the seven Indian films to feature at IFFK.
IFFK is an annual event organised by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (the motion picture academy of Kerala) on behalf of the department of cultural affairs of that state. It showcases experimental, pathbreaking films.
‘Capital I’ marks the debut of Amartya Bhattacharya as a director of feature films. The software engineer has already directed short films and documentaries, including Niloye Jokhon and Boba Mukhosh. These were well received at international film festivals.
Odiya filmmaker Susant Misra, who plays the male lead in the film, has co-produced the film with Swastik Choudhury. And Kisaloy Roy has scored music for Capital I.
The film made on a shoestring budget has been shot entirely using a DSLR camera mounted on a tripod.
It follows the lives of a mysterious artist and a young girl who is trapped between a real relationship and an imaginary one with a hallucinatory, lesbian partner.
Capital I has featured earlier as one of the six films at South Asian Alternative Film Festival, Paris. It was critically acclaimed and was the first Indian film to be acquired by the Italian sales and distributions company ‘The Open Reel’ for international sales and distribution.
