Bhubaneswar: As the Capital city is expanding and developing with many new apartments and shopping malls cropping up every second day, the people living or working in these establishments need to know how to save their lives during fire hazards.
For this the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) in collaboration with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Red Cross and Civil Defence have organised a special mock drill at city based Esplanade mall in Rasulgarh Bhubaneswar Thursday. Many more such drills will be organised in various such establishments to train those who work in such establishments.
Jacob Kispotta, Commandant, 3rd BN, NDRF said that the mock drill is a way of identifying the strengths and lacunae of the disaster management forces in order to be better prepared for the future. The drill focused on use of equipments meant for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) emergency and other measures to evacuate people and control the hazard he said.
Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) in the past also had carried out mock drills simultaneously across the state to check preparedness at various levels to handle #disasters like flood and cyclone. In June last year the mock drill was conducted on settings akin to simulated situation of flood and cyclone.
The mock exercises are done on the line of action to be taken in case of a real disaster were conducted at different levels.
The emergency equipment like tower light, mechanized cutter, generator, stretcher and megaphone supplied to the shelters were also operated during the mock drill.
