Bhubaneswar: Investigations by the commissionerate police into the hacking of the official website of Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) Monday zeroed in on a student of Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) in the city who allegedly committed the act.
Sources said the accused was identified as Tarini Prasad Samantray. Twin-city Police Commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma told Orissa POST: “We have traced a student who had hacked the website of OUAT. He is pursuing engineering at a private college here and is a very bright student”. He also said that the student admitted to having hacked the website of OUAT.
“If action is taken against him, his entire career will be ruined. Although he has admitted to have hacked the website, keeping in mind his career, we have sent a notice to him and have called him for questioning,” added Sharma.
The website was reportedly hacked January 15 by a hacker who identified himself as “don” and posted obscene messages on it. OUAT VC Manoranjan Kar had asked for the website’s removal from the server. A case was registered under the Information Technology Act, 2000 at Khandagiri police station January 16.
Investigators, while examining several IP addresses, had believed the hacking act was the handiwork of some students who wanted to practice hacking. At least 300 IP addresses were reportedly examined to crack the case.
