Jajpur: As many as 14, 72,638 voters will cast their votes in the elections to Jajpur Lok Sabha seat and the seven Assembly segments under it Monday. A total of 1,619 polling booths have been set up in the district. Among them, 105 booths have been identified as model booths.
The polling will start from 7 Am and end at 6 PM. As many as 61 candidates are contesting in this election from Binjharpur (reserved), Jajpur, Bari, Barchana, Dharmasala, Korei and Sukinda Assembly seats and the Jajpur Lok Sabha seat.
Eight candidates are contesting for the Jajpur Lok Sabha seat while five for the Binjharpur Assembly seat, seven for Bari, seven for Barchana, 10 Dharmasala, six for Jajpur, seven for Korei and 11 for Sukinda.
The district administration and the police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure free and fair polling. Meanwhile, all the polling parties have reached their respective booths.
According to reports, a total of 14, 72,638 voters will exercise their franchise in the election out of which 7, 67,456 are males, 7, 05,100 females and 82 are other voters.
This year 1, 71,893 people have been added to the voter list as new voters. The district has 24,195 differently-abled voters out of whom 3,205 are visually impaired, 3,477 are hearing impaired, 8,740 are physically disabled and 8,773 are with other disabilities.
The counting of votes will take place at NC College in Jajpur town May 23. The Election Commission has engaged 10,704 polling officers including 174 women officers on the election duty.
The district administration has identified 422 booths as sensitive booths while web-casting will be done in 170 booths, CCTV cameras have been installed in 73 booths, micro-observers have been appointed in 101 booths, videography will be done in 28 booths and Central paramilitary forces have been deployed in 72 booths. Over 4,048 ballot control unit and VVPAT machines will be used in this election.
The Election Commission has deployed six companies of Central paramilitary forces, 21 platoons of state armed police, senior police officers and other security officials in the election duty.
