Berhampur, April 25: After inviting criticisms over URET question paper leak, delay in publishing Plus-III results and faulty evaluation, the examination control wing of the Berhampur University courted controversies yet again.
This time for the undue and overnight change of Plus-III examination centre.
The commerce students of the university who had enrolled their names in the distance education category, were scheduled to appear for the examinations in Mahamayee Women’s College and at Lingaraj Law College in the city. The admit cards also mentioned these two colleges as their exam centres.
The students reached their respective venues at the scheduled time Friday to find that only a few hours ago, the venue had been changed to Presidency College at Kanishi, is 15 km from the city.
The students faced a tough time to travel to a long distance to appear for the examinations. They alleged that no bus was plying to the new venue during the exam time.
When contacted, examination controller of the university, Prof Arun Panda said due to space crunch in the Mahamayee college and the Lingaraj Law College, they had to change the venue to Presidency College. He added that the students of the distance education were informed about the change of the venues much in advance. The updated information was on the university’s website.
However, the students alleged that they had no prior information about the change of venue. Several students were deprived of taking examinations due to the sudden change of the venue.
The parents alleged that if the university authorities were aware of the space crunch, then why did they selected the colleges as exam centres. That apart, even though there are a number of government colleges in Berhampur, there is no point in selecting a private college as venue that is 15 km from the city, they rued.
They blamed the authorities for playing with the career of the students and demanded stern action against the people involved in such irresponsible act.
