Chhendipada: Man-elephant conflict has claimed yet another life in Angul district this morning.
The deceased, an elderly woman identified as Labang Pradhan of Talaburi Sahi under Chhendipada panchayat, had gone near the coal mines to collect Mahua flowers when the incident occurred.
She was tossed into the air by an elephant leading to her death.
According to locals, the tusker appeared out of thick bush and flung the unsuspecting woman to the air with its trunk.
She died from her injuries after hitting the ground.
Locals rushed to the spot after learning of the incident and demanded compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
Chhendipada forest department officials reached the spot after being informed and held talks with the irate villagers regarding compensation.
