Talcher: The death of a college student at Hensamula village in Angul district has led to controversy with his parents demanding a high-level inquiry into the incident.
Debasish Sahu (16), son of Dinesh Kumar Sahu and a Plus II first year science student at Jupiter Science College in Bhubaneswar, allegedly committed suicide while at the college hostel October 20.
This was stated here by his parents and villagers at a press meet held Saturday. The parents claimed their son was murdered, and held the principal and hostel superintendent of the college responsible for his death.
Making a fervent appeal to the Chief Minister, the DGP and Crime Branch DG, the parents demanded a high-level inquiry into their son’s death and stringent action against the accused persons.
Sahu and his wife claimed the principal rang them up October 20 and asked them to come to the district headquarters hospital at Khurda where their son was admitted for illness.
They reached the hospital and found their son lying dead with nobody from the college present at the spot.
College authorities claimed their son committed suicide but the parents allegedly found bruises all over their son’s body, which they said indicated foul play. Moreover, the college principal and hostel superintendent had conflicting narratives of the incident, strengthening their doubts over foul play, Sahu said.
They alleged it to be pre-planned murder as there was no possibility for the
boy taking the extreme step of committing suicide. Jatari police registered a case over Sahu’s complaint and started an investigation. PNN
