Leaders blast BJP, Centre for undermining Orissa’s interests
Bhubaneswar: While BJD supremo Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chose to refrain from making any political comments during the BJD’s 20th Foundation Day event, other leaders of the party came down heavily on the BJP, which is in power at the Centre, for neglecting Orissa and expressed confidence in winning the next elections.
The leaders asked party workers to intensify campaigning at the grass roots to reach out to people.
Before the arrival of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the venue of the Foundation Day event at Talabania in Puri, MPs, MLAs and the heads of BJD’s frontal wings who addressed the gathering criticised national parties, especially the BJP.
“We have an opposition that adopts all kind of tricks to suppress us. They will threaten and blackmail you. However, we have to fight against their propaganda and false agenda,” said BJP MP and spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb, adding, “We have to reach out to people with our own programmes and highlight the achievements of the BJD government in the last 20 years.”
BJD MP Pinaki Mishra said the party has to fight strongly on Mahanadi and Polavaram issues, while MLA Arun Sahu said that party leaders and workers have to give a tough fight to the government at the Centre that has taken the leadership in conspiring against Orissa and is undermining its demands on key issues.
The leaders, meanwhile, claimed that people still have faith in the BJD and it will continue its winning streak in the 2019 general and Assembly elections.
BJD Lok Sabha MP Tathagata Satpathy said that people in the state are hopeful that the BJD led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will give a new direction to the country in the next elections.
BJD MLA Debasish Nayak, who claimed that the BJD will continue its winning spree in the next elections, said that despite spending Rs 3,000 crore the BJP’s score declined to double digit in the Gujarat elections and it will remain single digit in the next elections in Orissa.
BJD youth wing president Amaresh Patri said that in coming days the party’s youth and student activists will gear up to fight on issues like Polavaram, Mahanadi, special status for Orissa and paddy MSP strongly.
Party leaders urged members and grass root leaders to take up the ‘Ama Gaon Ama Vikas’ and ‘Ama Sahara Ama Unnati’ campaigns aggressively in rural and urban areas to reach out to people ahead of polls.
