Famous writer Charles Dickens once said “I’ve always considered Christmas to be a good time; a kind, forgiving, generous, pleasant time; a time when men and women seem to open their hearts freely, and so I say, God Bless Christmas.”

Appropriate to his saying the city too is busy decking itself up for Christmas and New Year. For many the main concern for Christmas is how to arrange a great party to suit the occasion. Orissa Post correspondent Chaitali Shome met one of the finest Party Consultant Asha Mahapatra at her residence and who shared a lot of tips for a successful Christmas party.

Is planning for a Christmas party tough?

Not, exactly. Different individuals have different tastes.Christmas, however, is one rock-solid common celebration for all regardless of caste, creed and age. Planning for such an amazing occasion is quite fun.

So, what are the tips you would give for holding a good Christmas party?

There are seven basic things one must take care of while planning a Christmas Party –Invitations, decoration, food, music, entertainment, special arrangements for kids and elders and of course the return gifts for every guest.

Can one plan all the above arrangements within budget?

Of course, nowadays people care more about hand-made gifts rather than expensive readymade items. From hand-made candles, diaries to do-it-yourself jewelleries, the ideas are endless and what’s more there is so much variety.

As far as food is concerned, in the West a roasted turkey is the norm, whereas in India one can opt for a roasted whole chicken, plum-cakes and Ceaser-salad at home. So, you see everything can be arranged all by self and within budget.

The same goes for invitations. Don’t use WhatsAapp for sending out invites, instead say it with hand-made greeting cards as it will give your invitation that personal touch.

The major point is to plan properly and execute it with brilliance.

How about decorations, aren’t they expensive?

Not really, one can collect Christmas tree and all the things to be hung on it like balls, stars, doves, stockings throughout the year especially during off-season. Moreover, these decorative items do cost high at all.

What kind of gifts one must select for Christmas?

See, every gift should be hand-picked or else hand-made as I have said earlier. Just make sure to gift that is unique, yet useful, especially for kids and the aged-people.

What’s your message to all the home-makers out there for Christmas?

Live life like St.Nicholas who is popularly known as Santa Claus and decorate your home with goodness and joy as well as with candles and lights, play some carols if you can and be content with your loved one’s as this is the time to make merry, eat, drink and dance and help the less fortunate.
