Cuttack: Punjilal Meher, the mastermind of the sensational parcel bomb gift blast in Patnagarh has moved the Orissa High Court for his bail Saturday.
The move comes after the Additional District Judge (ADJ) Court, Bolangir rejected the bail application of Punjilal June 1. His counsel Srimat Kumar Panigrahi has confirmed the reports.
Meher, who is now lodged at the Patnagarh sub-jail, was arrested by the Crime Branch Special Investigation Team (SIT) April 24 for his role in the parcel bomb. During probe by the CB, it was known that Punjilal had planned and executed the whole crime single-handedly in which newly-married Soumya Shekhar Sahu and his grandmother were killed while the newly-wed bride Reema was seriously injured.
The whole murder plot was hatched by Punjilal to revenge Soumya’s mother just because she had replaced him as the principal of a private college in which they both were posted. To take revenge, Punjilal had decided to destroy the whole family.
But, luckily Soumya’s parents and sisters had gone out of the house when the bomb exploded. Soumya and his grandmother were killed, leaving Soumya’s wife critical.
After the intervention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, the case was handed over to the CB who cracked the case. The story has since been adapted by Sony TV for its popular ‘Crime Patrol’ serial.
