Raghunathpur: A team of servitors participating in the Banajaga Yatra visited a place under Raghunathpur block in Jagatsinghpur district Saturday and inspected various attributes of a neem tree found there.
It is for the third time that the servitors visited Kharipadia under Dharadharpur gram panchayat and inspected whether the neem tree found there would be suitable for making the new idols of the Trinity.
As per reports, over 15 servitors reached the spot at 10.30 am. They moved around the tree and made a detailed analysis of the features found on the tree.
Meanwhile, the frequent visits by servitors to the spot have made people curious about whether this tree would be finally chosen for making the idols of presiding deities of Sri Jagannath temple at Puri.
Hundreds of people from nearby places have been flocking to the place over last few days after they came to know about the visit of the servitors to the place in search of holy wood (daru). Many people have expressed hope that the neem tree will be finally selected by the servitors for making the idols.
However, the servitors who went there refused to share information about the matter. The Badagrahi of Lord Jagannath’s chariot ‘Nandighosh’, Jagannath Swain Mohapatra stated that the servitors were satisfied with the attributes of the neem tree. But, he also did not reveal whether it would be finally selected for carving of the deities.
The villagers, on the other hand, said that the servitors had asked them to not touch the tree and carry out Sankirtan near the tree. It may be mentioned here that the servitors had visited the place Monday and Friday and inspected the features of the tree.
