Yami Gautam, the actor known for characters she portrayed in films such as ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘Badlapur’, and ‘Sanam Re’, was in the city Sunday for the promotion of a jewellery brand. Monalisa Patsani of Orissa POST caught up with the actor on the sidelines of the event. Here are some excerpts from the interview.
You came into films through television. What is the difference between these media?
They are not all that different. But there is more scope for acting in movies. The film industry is a sea of perspectives and offers opportunities for experimentation. The television industry helped me learn acting as I had never been into theatre or acting classes. It helped me groom myself.
How do you see your journey from ‘Vicky Donor’ till now?
It has been pretty good so far. I hope to see much more in coming years.
You have acted in Telugu, Tamil and Punjabi films, in addition to Hindi films. Did you face difficulties in adjusting to languages?
Language issues are always there. But I love them. It gives one exposure and opportunities to learn about people of other states.
What roles do you want to play in the future?
I am a big fan of costume drama and would like to work in a period film in future.
What are your upcoming projects?
I recently finished filming for ‘Kabil’ opposite Hrithik Roshan. The movie will be released soon. There are a couple of projects more about which I can’t talk right now.
What are your expectations from ‘Kabil’, considering that your recent films ‘Sanam Re’ and ‘Junooniyat’ with Pulkit Samrat didn’t do well at the box office?
I have expectations. But as actors we only work. It is up to the audience to like or dislike your work. I am positive about ‘Kabil’. I hope people would love the movie.
What do you have to say about the recent reports concerning Pulkit. Are they true?
Different people say different things. I don’t care what people say.
Have you been able to travel in Orissa?
I barely get any chance to see places. I haven’t seen any. I have told them to allow me some time to travel a bit.
