PIL in HC over Taladanda encroachment

Cuttack: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the Orissa High Court Thursday seeking directions to the authorities concerned to protect the areas adjoining the Taladanda canal from illegal encroachment and dumping of waste.
Petitioner Achyutananda Swain has made Law department secretary, Urban Development department secretary, CMC commissioner, CMC additional commissioner, District Collector and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), as parties to the case.
Swain, in his plaint, has alleged that continuous encroachment on both sides of the Taladanda canal road is resulting in traffic congestion apart from causing pollution in the water body.
Ambulances heading towards SCB Medical College and Hospital get stuck in the canal road for hours as the roads have shrunk to minimum due to unabated encroachment, Swain pointed out.
The petition further states that though the CMC commissioner is aware of issue, no action has been taken so far. Swain has urged the HC to direct the authorities concerned to remove encroachment in the canal road.
