Keonjhar: Even as many villages in Keonjhar have been reeling under darkness, the administration is flooded with complaints about absence of electricity. Poor households are entitled to subsidized power under government schemes, but they are yet to get the facility.
Contractors carrying out rural electrification allegedly provided wrong dates about supply of electricity to the government while proper monitoring is not being done.
Jhadapasi village under Sadar block is a case in point. 80 BPL families live in the village. The villagers complained to Collector Asish Thakre that utility poles have been set up, wires were drawn in the village six months ago, but electricity supply has not been made.
Villagers including Sita Mohant, Kadambini Das, Kamalini Mohant, Thakuramani Majhi and Sakuntala Munda that they have to live amid fear of wild animals when darkness prevails everywhere.
Their children are unable to study in the absence of lighting. Many other villages are faced with the same problem. Locals demanded review of the rural electrification in the district.
