Plasma therapy a success in Odisha; 4 out of 6 COVID-19 patients on path of recovery

Bhubaneswar: Plasma therapy has brought great relief to COVID-19 patients in the state.

Out of six critical patients who are now under plasma therapy, as many as four are responding very well and are not in need of oxygen support. The other two patients are in stable condition and on the path towards full recovery.

A total of eight units of plasma have been collected from four donors so far. Out of that, six units have been used. Four patients at the dedicated COVID hospital in SUM Hospital and two at Ashwini Hospital are under plasma therapy now.

Odisha is among the few states that have undertaken plasma therapy to treat critical COVID-19 patients. Last week Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had inaugurated this procedure at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack which acts as the nodal agency.

After the appeal of the CM to cured COVID-19 patients for plasma donation, more and more people are coming forward to join the mission.

Following SUM and Ahswini hospitals, KIMS Hospital  in Bhubaneswar is also set to start plasma therapy to treat critical patients.
