Paradip: With a view to ensure utmost safety of port employees and workers, a restriction on movement of two-wheelers and bicycles will be imposed in the restricted area of Paradip port here in Jagatsinghpur district from October 1.
The restriction to be implemented will help reduce the number of accidents in the port area. That apart, it will go a long way in bringing down the pollution level, said chief marine engineer Saroj Kumar Das.
Paradip port is said to be one of the largest ports in the country to implement such a rule.
For the benefit of the employees and workers, bus service has been started from Friday, which was flagged off by Das in presence of port chairman Rinkesh Roy and other dignitaries. Four buses of OSRTC are plying.
These buses whose entire expenses would be borne by the port authority would ply 24 hours through gate No. two, four and five. The other companies have also been asked to arrange four-wheeler facilities for their employees and staff.
There are some employees who are in the habit of bunking their duties midway through without informing their superiors. And this new rule is said to be effective in checking this trend.
