Bhubaneswar, June 12: The state government has decided to provide Rs 50,000 per beneficiary for construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna (PMAY) Urban. This would be in addition to the Centre’s grant of Rs 1,50,000 per beneficiary under the scheme.
The PMAY-Urban scheme has four verticals, according to sources in the housing and urban development department. These are slum redevelopment using land as a resource, credit-linked subsidy scheme, affordable housing in PPP mode and subsidy for beneficiary-led individual house construction, they said.
“The state government has decided to provide `50,000 per beneficiary in addition to the Union government’s grant of `1,50,000 per beneficiary under the beneficiary led construction vertical of PMAY,” H&UD secretary G Mathivathanan recently wrote to Union housing and urban poverty alleviation secretary Nandita Chatterjee.
The Centre has decided to provide `1,50,000 to each beneficiary under the vertical of subsidy for beneficiary-led individual house construction. In addition to this, the state would provide `50,000 for construction of each house in different urban local bodies (ULBs) across the state.
According to the guidelines of the scheme, any individual belonging to the economical weaker section of society can avail the benefit. The annual income of the applicant must be below `1.8 lakh and the family members must not have any pucca house in any part of the country.
The guidelines also state that the individual or family members must not take a house under any scheme. The applicant must also have 25-30 square metre of land in the ULB where the house will be constructed with maximum expenditure of `3 lakh. The beneficiary will bear the extra amount for construction of the house, it said. Two crore houses for urban poor all across the country are to be built by 2022 under the scheme.
