Bantala, Dec 22: Poachers laid live wires hooked to an 11-kv transmission line and killed a deer at the Satkosia sanctuary in Angul district Sunday, forest officials said Monday. The matter came to light during the night patrolling when forest officials arrested two poachers and seized the deer carcass.
Five others fled the scene on noticing the forest officials. The forest officials were patrolling in the Chotamunda reserve jungle under the Pampasar range of the sanctuary Sunday night when they noticed sparks emerging from an 11-kv transmission line with wires loosely hanging from it on the ground.
They rushed to the spot and found a deer dead and poachers trying to escape. They chased the miscreants and caught two of them while five others managed to escape.
