Daringbadi:Ten days have passed but the police was yet to arrest the Headmaster of a high school under this block in Kandhamal district who was accused of raping a Class VIII girl. The accused was Aditya Prasad Rath.
Relatives and family members of the victim expressed resentment over the alleged police indifference. Earlier, the victim had approached the SP of Phulbani, seeking his intervention to arrest the HM. While police said it has launched an investigation, they drew flak from people over their failure to arrest the HM.
The alleged incident occurred April 22. On the pretext of cleaning his quarters, Rath called the victim to his room. He then forced himself upon her. Later, he asked her not to reveal the incident to anyone. The girl escaped from the school hostel and narrated her ordeal to her family members. This led to the filing of a police complaint.
The inspector-in-charge Srikant Khamari said the HM was absconding. “We are conducting raids to arrest him and are tracking his mobile phone,” Khamari stated.
