Kendrapara: “You can separate two lovers by distance but you can never break the bridge that connects their hearts, no matter where they are in the world.” This saying proved true for two lovebirds of Kajalabandha village near Pattamundai.
According to reports, Runu Mallick (20), daughter of Maheswar Mallick of the village, was in a relationship with Nabaghan Mallick (26) of the same village. Both informed their parents about their relationship and sought their permission for marriage. However, Runu’s family was against the relationship. Sensing trouble, the two eloped from the village May 10.
Maheswar filed a complaint with the local police. Having heard about this, the lovebirds surrendered before the police Mondayand expressed their readiness for marriage.
In a bid to resolve the issue, Pattamundai police station IIC Pramod Mallick called the family members of the boy and girl and tried to get their nod for the marriage. Runu’s parents opposed this. Then, Pramod took the matter up with the local sarpanch, Subash Khatua.
The police officials and the sarpanch arranged the young couple’s marriage in a temple adjacent to the police station as per the law.
