Police nab main accused in youth murder case

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police Sunday reportedly detained the main accused in the murder of a 20-year-old youth near Baramunda Bus stand Saturday night. The deceased, identified as Shiva Shankar Goud, a resident of Bhanjanagar in Ganjam, lived with his mother and two siblings at the Tapovan slum under Khandagiri police station limits here.
Goud’s mother works as a daily-wager while his estranged father is an ice-cream seller in the city.
Lingaraj Reddy, a friend of the deceased who was with Goud when the miscreants attacked them leading to his death told that they were on the way to distribute their friend’s wedding cards when 10 to 15 miscreants intercepted him and stabbed him near Baramunda bus stand around 7.30pm.
Goud, who was reportedly a member of Biju Yuva Vahini, had no enmity with anyone, claimed the slum dwellers.
Speaking to the media, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anup Sahu said, “We are investigating into the matter after registering a case at the Khandagiri Police station. Initial investigation pointed towards personal enmity over eve-teasing as the reason behind the ghastly murder. We have detained one accused and also identified few others involved in the murder. Special team of police officials has been created to nab the accused persons.”
Meanwhile, the locals claimed that Reddy and the miscreants allegedly had a dispute few days ago over passing lewd comments at a girl. They had a argument but later settled the matter amongst themselves. But, Sunday night, they intercepted Goud’s motorcycle and tried to attack Reddy and Goud while on their way to Baramunda.
However, Goud failed to escape from the clutches of the miscreants while Reddy fled the spot. They allegedly assaulted Goud and later stabbed him to death with an iron rod.
After they left the place, Reddy returned to the place and rushed Goud to the Capital Hospital where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
