Baripada: Baripada sadar police rescued three minor students Tuesday who had fled Swami Vivekananda Shiksha Ashram hostel at Sirisbani in Mayurbhanj district August 15.
SDPO KP Patnaik and sadar police IIC Swarnalata Minj along with two other teams rescued the students. While two boys were rescued from Rourkela another was rescued from Tatanagar.
According to police, a constable found the three minors going towards Baripada Railway station after fleeing the hostel on the eve of Independence Day. The police questioned the trio who said they were B Tech students of a private engineering college in Bhubaneswar. So, he let them go.
However, later they were identified as inmates of the Ashram following which a rescue operation was launched. Based on the inputs, SDPO Patnaik along with his team started the investigation and succeeded in rescuing the students.
The Class IX students have been identified as Subhankar Mishra of Balasore, Abhinash Mohakud of Rourkela and Hemant Kumar Sahu of Mayurbhanj.
Sources said, the minor boys managed to escape from the hostel by scaling the boundary wall of the Ashram.
CCTV surveillance footage also suggested that the three hostel inmates fled the campus at around 3.30 am and left for Baripada railway station. The trio had already planned to run away from the hostel, it was learnt.
The school authorities had registered a missing complaint with the Sadar Police in this regard August 16.
