Sundargarh/Sorada: Two brothers of BJD’s Sundargarh MLA candidate Jogesh Singh sustained critical injuries after they were attacked by miscreants in Sargipali area of this district late Wednesday night.

According to reports, about six unidentified men attacked his brothers — Naresh and Ritesh — with knives at about 1.45 am while the duo had been to a hamlet in Sargipali area.

Both were grievously injured and have since been admitted to Sargipali hospital for treatment.  On the other hand, a supporter of the BJP was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people at Kadalijhola village under Sorada police limits in Ganjam district Wednesday evening. The deceased has been identified as Santosh Pati (35).

The assailants reportedly attacked him with iron rods and sticks at around 8.30 pm leading to his death. Exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. Tension gripped the area following the incident. Police, however, moved swiftly and the situation was brought under control.

Police have started investigation into the incident and efforts are on to nab the attackers, said additional director general of police (law and order) Sanjeeb Panda.

Similarly, as many as three people sustained injuries at Bhatakhalli village under Kabisuryanagar police limits of Polasara Assembly constituency in Ganjam district over a group clash owing to an alleged political rivalry Thursday.

The injured were identified as Shyam Sundar Sahu, Bidesi Kumar Sahu and Rajeev Bisoi. The injured have been admitted to Polasara community health centre (CHC). Based on a complaint by Rajeev, police registered a case and launched a probe.

On the other hand, in Jharsuguda, a Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Brajarajnagar MLA Radharani Panda was reportedly attacked by miscreants at a polling booth here Thursday morning.

Reportedly, it began as a minor fight that escalated quickly and PSO Radhe Kisan was attacked when he had gone with Panda to booth no 182 of Ganganagar area at around 12.30 pm.

After sustaining injuries on his head, Kisan was rushed to the hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment. On the other hand, Panda has alleged involvement of rival political party in the attack.

As tension gripped the area, Brajarajnagar police deployed personnel to pacify the situation and facilitate smooth voting.
