Cuttack: The Silver City Tuesday woke up to four robberies, a temple and three residences in New LIC Colony. Miscreants decamped with cash and valuables worth `10 lakh in the wee hours of Tuesday.
A team of Badambadi police reached the spots with a scientific team and carried out preliminary investigations.
Police said they have registered two cases (340 and 341/17) in this regard. Efforts are on to collect footages of CCTVs installed in the colony.
“We have spotted human faeces near the crime scenes. We suspect it is the handiwork of a ‘Wandering’ gang of Aska as they usually defecate near the crime scenes after robberies,” IIC Biranchi Narayan Pati said, adding preliminary investigation hints at the involvement of at least six in the robberies.
Efforts are on to nab the miscreants and they would intensify night patrolling in the area, Pati added.
According to the complaint, the hoodlums robbed `4 lakh worth items from Akhandalamani temple’s store room and the sanctum. The miscreants decamped with the deities’ jewelleries, donation box and other valuables.
Later, they struck the residences (L/122) of Rajkishore Padhi, (L/127) of Madhusudan Nayak and (L/128) of Biswajit Sahu.
“The three families had gone to their village for Christmas. While Padhi lost `50,000 and jewelleries, Sahu lost `25,000, gold and a motorcycle. Nayak lost `5,000 cash and household valuables,” sources said.
The incidents came to light around 6 am. Temple priest Satya Kishore Satpathy discovered that the locks were twisted and the donation box was missing from the temple.
Meanwhile, locals blamed slack night patrolling for rising robberies.
