Thuamul Rampur: A pregnant woman was carried nearly two kilometres on a makeshift stretcher after ambulance failed to reach her village due to badly damaged road in Odisha’s Kalahandi district, highlighting the lack of basic infrastructure in remote areas.
The incident took place at Ghutiguda village under Thuamul Rampur block, where Ranjita Majhi went into labour late Friday night. Due to severe pain in her abdomen, her family called the ambulance service, but the vehicle was unable to go through the muddy and broken road leading to the village.
After waiting for several hours, the ambulance reportedly returned without reaching the patient, leaving the family with no option but to carry the woman on a makeshift stretcher through the slushy stretch.
The family carried her for about two kilometres until they reached the nearest motorable road. From there, she was taken in an autorickshaw to the Thuamul Rampur Community Health Centre for medical treatment.
