Bhograi: People in Bhograi area of Balasore district have reportedly been facing a lot of problems in enrolment and correction of their Aadhaar cards.
Jana Seva Kendras run by some authorised private organisations used to provide the service to the people, but they have closed since February.
Locals said the government has ordered banks and post offices to provide Aadhaar services free of cost. However, most banks are not providing the services, in blatant violation of the government order.
Only post offices are providing the services with a large number of people thronging them daily. Work in many post offices has been plagued by staff shortage. The skeletal staff has to do its usual work along with Aadhaar enrolment and rectification.
Postal services are hampered due to heavy rush of people for Aadhaar work.
Thousands of people throng Dehurda and Kamarda post offices since 6 am. Many people have to return frustrated without their work done.
Locals observed that had banks provided the services, people would not be rushing to only post offices. But banks are least concerned about the people’s plight, they alleged.
They pointed out that as per rule, a resident seeking residential certificate from tehsil office needs to furnish his Aadhaar. For Aadhaar, people have to pay Rs 25 as service charge and Rs 5 GST.
Dehurda post office finds it difficult to handle the rush of people with only three staff. Postmaster Piryabrata Mohapatra admitted that they have to face a lot of trouble.
However, Niranjan Mohaptra, branch manager of SBI, Dehurda, said they have received no directive in this regard.
