Binika: Two disabled siblings have been forced to remain confined to their bed in Akhidadar village of Binika block in Subarnapur district due to acute financial problems.
The villagers have demanded that the administration extend a helping hand for their medical treatment.
Sources said Ujwal Bag and Sashi Bag had three children, Ghanshyam, (35), Ganesh, (25) and daughter Bangiri, (29). They were a happy family with a little hut and two acres of farmland where they cultivated paddy and vegetables.
However, things went bad when Ganesh and Bangiri became ill and got disabled. Ujwal mortgaged his two-acre farm for their treatment, but there was no improvement in their medical condition.
Ujwal passed away due to old age, leaving the responsibility of running the family on elder son Ghanshyam. With no help from the administration, Ghanshyam is running from pillar to post to raise money for the treatment of his siblings.
But no one has come forward to help. “I do odd jobs to maintain the family. My income is not sufficient to meet all expenses. I request the administration to help in getting my siblings treated,” Ghanshyam said.
The family does not get any government help other than 35 kg rice and the old age pension of Rs 500 of his mother. Ghanshaym has requested officials to help his siblings.
