Power failure in Odisha: Villagers block road over frequent outages in Cuttack district

Banki: Residents of Harirajpur village under Banki block in Cuttack district blocked a road Thursday to protest against frequent power cuts and low voltage issues prevailing in their village, a source said.

The villagers blocked the Banki-Cuttack main road. As a result, vehicular movement from both sides of the road was hampered. The agitators burnt tyres and shouted slogans against the administration.

According to the source, the villagers had previously complained to the concerned authorities multiple times regarding the unannounced power outages during the erstwhile heatwave condition in summer.

Locals, however, alleged that the Energy Department officials did not pay heed to their ordeal and the power cuts continued unabated. This irked the villagers to stage the road blockade, the source added.

Later, cops reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters through discussion. The Energy Department officials assured the villagers to resolve the issue after which the villagers called off the agitation.

The officials of the Energy Department said that the power cuts were arising due to technical issues.
