Pradhan flags off Gandhi Sankalp Yatra

Bhubaneswar: Senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and Union Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Wednesday launched ‘Gandhi Sankalp Yatra’ from Telangapentha to Balisahi in Cuttack to mark the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi.

“Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the process to use the strength of the nation towards creating awareness on several issues ranging from plantation of trees, water conservation and avoiding single-use plastic.

On 150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji, the best thing is to remember his ideologies,” said Pradhan.
Similarly, another Union Minister from state— Pratap Sarangi participated in such programme in Balasore district. Party’s national vice president Baijayanta Panda also flagged off a padayatra from Kendrapara district and former Union minister Jual Oram launched the programme in Sundargarh.

Sarangi said that scientists have already warned that the use of plastic would be doubled by 2020. “Hence, it’s necessary to stop the use right away,” he said.

The BJP leader took pledge not to use single-use plastic any more.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) took out a padayatra in Bhubaneswar to spread Gandhiji’s message of non-violence. “Our padayatra is an effort to make people aware of the ongoing violence and religion and caste-based politics. We also want to tell people to adopt the path shown by Gandhiji as this government (BJP) has already pushed the country 100 years back,” said Congress’ Odisha in-charge, Jitendra Singh.
