Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Saturday inaugurated smart classrooms for nine Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in the state which could ensure connecting the classrooms with internet and other smart technologies.
This has paved way for opening up of 184 classrooms in nine KVs in the state which included schools in Bhubaneswar, Khurda Road and Cuttack. It is expected that 12,300 students will be benefited from this significant step. The e-classrooms have been aided with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of the ONGC.
The minister said the idea of smart schools was based on the United States model. He said, “A total of 186 classrooms in Odisha will convert into smart classrooms with an expenditure of `4 crore. Currently, we have around 400 smart classrooms functioning in the country under the initiative of the ONGC with an estimated cost of `6 crore,” he said.
He also cited the success stories of many other luminaries of the country who excelled without many facilities. He said, “The students and teachers are fortunate to learn and teach through e-platform. You all are so fortunate to read in Central schools. Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Modi and many others weren’t that fortunate to read in good schools. They belonged to poor families yet they braved all odds and became great leaders of the country.”
The minister also cited the example of freedom fighter and martyr Udham Singh. He said, “There is need to utilise the smart classrooms well and enlarge our knowledge horizon. I am sure that the students of KVs in Bhubaneswar will become great personalities in future,” Pradhan stated.
Among others present in the inaugural ceremony included Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, Rajya Sabha MP Ashwini Vaishnaw and Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray. Deputy Commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Indu Kaushik also spoke on the occasion.
