Bhubaneswar: Renowned singer and musician Prafulla Kar has been nominated to receive the coveted Padma Shree award for 2015 Sunday. The Union Government has notified the award for 104 persons of eminence including Kar. Born in Puri in 1939, music maestro Kar has carved a niche for himself in playback singing and rendering music in over 70 Oriya movies. He also proved his mettle in Bengali films. Talking to Orissa POST after the award announcement, Kar said “It was unexpected when the news came from the Home Department, Saturday. I have devoted my life to music. Even today instead of staying indoors, I work in my studio. Although several awards came my way, this one is special as I cherish it. I believe, if one is sincere, hard-working and honest, awards will follow. I’m overwhelmed by the people’s love and attention the award has brought in. I am elated”.
