The Orissa State Film Awards panel selects Chini as the Best Film of 2016. The best actor award of the year goes to Samaresh Routray and best actress award to Sushree Sangeeta Mohapatra (Lipi).

BHUBANESWAR: Oriya film Chinihas been adjudged the best feature film by a five-member jury appointed by state Culture Department which announced the 28th Orissa State Film Awards and 5th Tele Awards, 2016 here, Monday. Chini bagged the prestigious Mohan Sunder Dev Goswami Award in the best film category.
Veteran singer Pranab Kishore Patnaik has been selected to receive the Jayadev award while Ajay Rath bags the best director award for Namard. Patnaik will receive a cash award of `1 lakh in addition to a citation. “It’s with the people’s blessings that I was chosen for the award. I am grateful to the jury for nominating me for the prestigious Jayadev Award,” said Patnaik. Samaresh Routrayand Sushree Sangeeta Mohapatra(Lipi) will receive the award in best actor and best actress categories for their role in ‘Namard’and ‘Mimansa’ respectively.
The best story award has gone to Dillip Kumar Chaudhary for Namard and Goodly Rath bags Balakrushna Samman for best music direction in ‘Tu Kahibu Na mu’. Samaresh was also selected to receive the best supporting actor award last year. Similarly, the best playback singer (female) award has gone to Mahalakshmi Iyer for Dheu Phere Kule of Mimansa, best playback singer (Male) to Sashank for Dine Phutithila Phula from the movie Tu Kahibu Na Mu, best lyricist award goes to Subrat Swain for ‘Love You Jessica, best screenplay to Dillip Kumar Chaudhary for Namard, best art direction to Deben Amat for Chini and best editing to Sukumar Mani for ‘Love U Jessica.
Mani was nominated for the second consecutive time in the editing category. Last year, he won the award for the movie IshqTu Hi Tu. Late actor Minaketan Das and Mahasweta Ray were adjudged best supporting actor and actress award while Chittaranjan Tripathy and Tithirupa Bohidar will get best comedian and best child artiste award respectively.
When contacted, Mahasweta who got the award for Dele dhara katha sare said she deserved the award for her role in Chini. No nominations were made in documentary and best children’s films category this year. When contacted, head of the jury Bipin Bihari Mishra said the decision to nominate Pranab Kishore Patnaik for the Jayadev Puraskar was taken considering the fact that he should have been given this award earlier. He said only 19 films were received this year and the figure is less than the
last year’s.
Chini is an Oriya and Sambalpuri language film, made under Navajiban banner and directed by Pradeep Bhol, produced by Bhabani Majhi and Snehalata Parida. Meanwhile, a list of television programmes and personalities have been announced under 17 categories of tele film awards. Sindurabinduhas bagged the best tele serial award while Swetlanahas ben nominated for best actress award for ACP Nikita and Choudhry Satyabrat Das for best actor in Sindurabindu. Likewise, Dharitri Khandual has bagged the special jury award for film ‘Tapoi’ and MD Bablu for Telefilm Chandal, while Sindurabindu will receive the best Tele serial award. Notably, the awards instituted by the State
Government in 1968, are decided by an independent jury constituted by the Department of Culture. The jury comprises eminent personalities from the film fraternity, academicians, journalists and public servants. The jury for Tele awards headed by Pradosh Pattanaik did not select anybody for best director,
best story and best educational/children film. Patnaik said the jury members found nothing original in the teleserials. The content was invariably borrowed from other channels and hence no award was selected for the director and story.
