Pressure builds up to finish PMAY units

Bant: The Centre lays a lot of stress on expeditious execution of its flagship scheme Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)-Gramin. However, this rural housing scheme has been caught in slow pace in 25 panchayats under Bant block of Bhadrak, a report said.

Notably, PMAY-Gramin launched in 2016 aims at providing pucca houses with basic amenities to all rural households by the end of 2022.

Meanwhile, APD (rural housing, DRDA) Debendra Kumar Pandab visited various panchayats and advised beneficiaries to complete their houses by the end of this month so as to meet the target.

According to reports, 2023 housing units have not been completed. 1048 houses were completed by the current month while the administration is allegedly sitting over issuing work orders on 119 cases.

The block has miserably performed in the rural housing scheme, even though the administration has been doing its best to complete the work.

Due to slow pace of construction and other problems, the block has failed to achieve the target in the current fiscal.

Bant block has 25 panchayats. The administration set a target to complete 3190 housing units in 2019-20 fiscal. Work orders were issued to 3071 beneficiaries.

They were provided the first installments of funds (Rs 20,000 each) into their bank accounts. 1643 beneficiaries have received their second installments (Rs 30,000 each), 995 received their third installments (Rs 40,000) and 743 have got their fourth installments.

In Adia panchayat, only 151 work orders were issued while only 92 housing units were completed. 49 only housing were completed 114 out of 169 in Anijo.

In Badabarjakiyan, 71 out of 98 beneficiaries have made their houses; 34 out of 80 in BT Pur; 65 out of 98 in Bahamahigotha; 71 out of 96 in Basantia; 113 out of 171 at Bant; 70 out of 153 in Charigan; 21 out of 44 in Chhayalsingh; 101 out of 149 in Ganijang; 231 out of 311 in Gopinathpur; 113 out of 172 in Gobindapur; 99 out of 120 in Kadabaranga; 109 out of 151 in Kenduapada; 22 out of 44 in Mohantypada; 85 out of 111 in Niloka; 89 out of 120 in Odanga; 75 out of 114 in Padhanpada; 19 out of 53 in Purusanda; 41 out of 65 in Ramachandrapur; 41 out of 65 in Ramkrushnapur; 73 out of 106 in Rapmur; 89 out of 130 in Sendhatira; 89 out of 251 in Tilo; 17 out of 31 in Todagan and 35 out of 55 in Purusandha panchayat.

BDO Rebeka Bilung said the beneficiaries have been issued notices and through public address system to complete their work.

Besides, the BDO and the other staff of the block administration have been visiting the houses of beneficiaries regularly, insisting on taking quick completion of work.

The APD also wanted the beneficiaries to hasten housing construction to achieve the target.
