Bantala: Two senior experts from the National Tiger conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) Saturday gathered information from locals on the behaviour of Royal Bengal Tiger Mahavir which was found dead in Satkosia sanctuary.
IG Amit Mallick from NTCA and K Ramesh from WII visited the site where the tiger was found dead and examined the place. They also inspected the place where the tiger was cremated after post-mortem and collected the pugmarks and took the GPS reading of the area.
The experts then visited Brahmani village on the fringes of Raiguda range under Narsinghpur police limits and interacted with the villagers about the tiger’s death. They enquired as to what was the behaviour of the tiger when it was moving in the area. They also sought to know whether the tiger displayed any violent behaviour towards the people or cause any damage to them.
They then visited the enclosure of tigress Sundari in Raiguda and monitored its movement apart from scanning the CCTV footage. They expressed their happiness after they found the tigress to be in good health. The experts monitored the movement of wild animals in Rasanda, Kuadoli, Murkundi and interacted with the villagers of Tuluka. They then enquired about the nature camps at Chhotkei and the visit of tourists to the site.
Later, the experts conducted a meeting with the rangers at Purunukote range office and took stock of the burning of the beat house after the death of woman in an alleged attack by Sundari near Hatibari village.
The officials then visited the Tikarpada range office and conducted a probe into the burning of office, tourist boats and the residences of forest officials by angry mobs. Later, the two left for Bhubaneswar where were learnt to have conducted a meeting with PCCF Sandip Tripathy and ACCF Sudarshan Panda.
