Bhadrak: Vicky Kumar Sao, who had lost both his legs following a mishap, has got a new lease of life after he was fitted with two prosthetic legs, thanks to the noble gesture of Bhadrak district administration.
With the help of the administration, Vicky was provided with the prosthetic legs that have helped him live a normal life like he used to before his accident.
“Had the District Collector not come to my aid, I would be living the life of a disabled all by now. I express my gratitude to the administration,” Vicky quips.
It was when Vicky, a Class IX student then, was playing cricket at a field near his house March 9, 2009, a live electric wire from an electric pole passing through the cricket ground, snapped off and fell on him.
Vicky sustained severe burn injuries and both his legs had to be amputated at a hospital in Patna. Even though Vicky’s life was saved, he was left physically-challenged for life.
His dream of playing cricket for the nation was shattered pushing Vicky to depression. He was dependent on a wheel chair for the past two years as the financial condition of his family was not good and they could not afford an artificial leg for him.
However, the prosthetic legs have given Vicky the courage to dream again who is now pursuing his Plus III degree.
Vicky’s brother Hanif, who owns a shop at Mathasahi in Bhadrak approached Bhagwan Parida, chief of CRSR, an NGO at Charampa through the Physically-disabled Empowerment Department for help.
Later, following the intervention of Bhadrak Collector, Gyana Ranjan Das, Vicky was fitted with two prosthetic legs this month. Vicky is relieved that he can play cricket again with his new legs. Vicky, who is now capable of riding motorcycle on his own, has been doing his daily activities as well. He promises to pay back to the administration by bringing a change in the society and representing the district in India Cricket team.
