Bhubaneswar: Protection of human life is our top priority, said Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari Thursday, as the state government reviewed its heatwave preparedness at a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan.
He directed all departments to take proactive and coordinated measures to effectively manage potential heatwave conditions across the state.
The government has decided to set up model cooling shelters in heatwave-prone areas, along with special measures to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and outdoor workers.

In a key decision, no physical or construction work will be permitted between 11 am and 3 pm during extreme heatwave conditions.
The minister warned of strict action against those violating the guidelines.
Authorities have been directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply and adequate drinking water, along with the installation of water kiosks, ORS supplies, first-aid kits, and cooling spaces in schools, hospitals, and other public places.
Hospitals will set up dedicated heatstroke wards, while schools may introduce water breaks to keep children hydrated.
Districts such as Jharsuguda, Brajrajnagar, Angul, and Talcher—known for severe heat conditions—will receive special focus with targeted interventions.
Mining and industrial zones will also adopt enhanced safety measures, including cooling facilities.
To tackle recurring summer power issues, the Energy Department has been directed to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply, maintain adequate reserves, and respond promptly to public complaints through helplines.
