PSH Junior face SAIL in summit clash

Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: Panposh Sports Hostel (PSH) Junior and SAIL Hockey Academy won their respective semifinals Saturday at the PSH Ground in Rourkela, to set up a summit clash in the professional division of the Ist Inter-City Gold Cup Hockey Tournament.

In the first semifinal, PSH Junior spanked PSH Sub-juniors 4-1. Suman Kujur scored a brace for the junior side, while Suraj Minz and Ashis Toppo struck once each. Serial Lugun got one back for the sub-junior side.

The second semifinal was a keenly contested affair in which SAIL defeated Sports Hostel, Bhubaneswar by 10-9 via penalty shoot-out. The match was tied 4-4 in the stipulated time. Siland Lakra scored two goals, while Abhiram Lugun and Angrace Kujur scored one goal each for SAIL. For Sports Hostel Bhubaneswar, Nitin Mukesh Tigga and Rajendra Oram scored a brace each.

In the ensuing penalty shoot-out, SAIL could convert five out of the five chances, while Sports Hostel could convert only four. The final will be played Sunday.

Biplab returns

Orissa’s four-day Ranji Trophy skipper Biplab Samantray, who was axed from the team for his poor show, returned to the limited overs 15-member squad announced by Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) Saturday, for the Vijay Hazare Trophy cricket tournament at Delhi, December 10-18. Natraj Behera has been appointed as the skipper of the team, while Govind Poddar will be his deputy.

Cross-country run

Amit Kumar Singh stood first in the senior category of the cross-country run, organised by Sainik School cadets here Saturday. Sourav Ranjan Sahoo and Sashi Kumar emerged winners in the junior and the sub-junior categories respectively.
