Puri: Brahmagiri police Monday arrested 19 people including seven women from Harijan Sahi locality of Dimirisena village under Brahmagiri police limits in Puri district. The arrests were made in connection with group clash that took place Sunday.
Sources said, at least two persons died and 10 others sustained serious injuries after a clash broke out between two families Sunday morning. The two groups attacked one another with sharp weapons. The deceased, identified as Surendra Bhoi and Kalia Bhoi, succumbed to injuries caused by spears and axe.
Preliminary police investigation has revealed that the two families got into a spat over the laying of a pipeline. It then snowballed into a violent clash.
Police have been deployed in the village to avoid any further escalation of tension between the two warring groups.
