Cuttack, Dec 29: Ace athlete Purnima Hembram proved her supremacy in the track and field again, winning a gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles event of the 62nd State Athletic meet at the Barabati Stadium here Monday. Purnima of ECoR clocked 14.5 seconds to secure the first position. Sumi Oram (15.8 seconds) of Sundargarh stood second while Madhusmita Giri (19.4 seconds) of Orissa Police finished third.
As many as three records were broken on day two. Priyanka Mahalik (16:37.6 seconds) created a new record in 3000m race walk of the girls-16 event. Punga Soren (13.6 seconds) in the 100m of boys-16 hurdles and Prabasi Karua (1:25.5 seconds) in the 600m of boys-14 also created histories by breaking previous records.
