Mumbai: Actor R Madhavan, known for his performances in horror films such as 13B and Shaitaan, is joining hands with filmmaker Vishal Furia for an upcoming horror feature.
For Furia, there was never any doubt about who would lead the project. The filmmaker said Madhavan was his first and only choice for the film.
“Madhavan sir was always my first and only choice. I’m stoked that he has come on board and has already started getting into the world of the film. He is the true OG horror star of the cult classic Indian horror 13B — one of my favourite films of all time,” Furia said in a statement.
“His conviction, his experience and his understanding of serious horror are very rare, and I couldn’t think of anyone better for this film,” he added.
Speaking about what audiences can expect from their collaboration, Furia said Madhavan’s experience as a writer, director and producer would bring a special dimension to the project.
“Madhavan sir has years of experience as a writer, director and producer, so it’s really special to have him with us on this film. Together, we want to create something audiences have never seen before in Indian horror — the kind of fear they will feel in their bones!” he said.
The film will be produced by Rohit Ranjan under his banner, Frostlit Production Limited.
Furia has carved a niche for himself in the horror genre. He began with the Marathi film Lapachhapi and went on to build the Chhorii universe. His recent directorial venture, Maa, starring Kajol, also featured a cameo by the actor.
Madhavan has previously explored the horror genre with films such as 13B: Fear Has a New Address and Shaitaan.
Released in 2009, 13B: Fear Has a New Address was directed by Vikram Kumar and starred R Madhavan and Neetu Chandra. The film was simultaneously shot in Hindi and Tamil, with the latter version titled Yavarum Nalam.
The story follows Manohar, who moves into a new apartment on the 13th floor with his family. Their peaceful life takes a disturbing turn when a spirit begins communicating with them through their television set.
Meanwhile, Shaitaan, directed by Vikas Bahl, is a supernatural psychological horror film featuring Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, Jyothika, Janki Bodiwala and Anngad Raaj.
An adaptation of the 2023 Gujarati film Vash, Shaitaan revolves around a family whose daughter falls under the spell of black magic cast by a stranger. The family then struggles to stop the possession and uncover the stranger’s motives.
With Madhavan and Furia coming together, the upcoming project brings together an actor with experience in the horror genre and a filmmaker known for exploring supernatural themes in the Hindi film industry.
