Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate police busted a railway job racket and arrested its mastermind Biswanath Sahoo from Jajpur Thursday.
According to police, Bikas Nayak and five others had lodged a complaint August 29 alleging Sahoo promised them jobs in Indian Railways as assistant station master, assistant loco pilot, junior clerk etc. The accused later introduced the victims to one Kumar Raja, whose real name is Mohammad Tehesin. Raja claimed to a senior East Coast Railways (ECoR) officer.
Raja scrutinised their certificates at Rail Sadan here. A man identified as Arji Ramesh, a peon, then sent them to Raja again for interviews.
Surendra Mallick, who said he was a railway employee, conducted their medical examination at the railway hospital. Another person Nirmal Kumar Jena (contractual cleaning supervisor at Mancheswar railway workshop) took them to the railway workshop where Ashok Kumar Prusty, JE at the workshop, trained them.
The accused took `2 lakh from each victim and provided then forged offer letters. But when they went to Rail Sadan, officials told them the letters were forged.
Police arrested Ramesh, Mallick, Prusty, Jena, Tehesin of West Bengal, Pravakart Patri, Sarat Kumar Jena and Ashok Kumar Mallick of Railway Institute, ECoR after registering a case (362/16). “A total of `54 lakh have been cheated in this case as per investigation so far,” said Chandrashekharpur police officials.
