Rains trigger water-logging in Balasore villages; 2-month-old baby dies in wall collapse

Balasore/Bhograi: Incessant rain fueled by the low pressure has thrown life out of gear in many parts of Balasore for the last two days amid reports that a kid has died after a rain-soaked wall caved in on the child in Remuna area.

A two-month-old baby girl died following a wall collapse in a house at Bilaparia village in Balasore when the mud wall crumbled folllowing incessant rains.

The deceased was identified as Jamuna, daughter of Laxman Murmu. Many families were shifted to Bilaparia ME school.

Following a directive from the collector, local administration and a unit of NDRF have rescued 10 persons of 12 families from water-logging. Scores of domestic animals were also shifted to the school.

Additional tehsildar Radhakant Barik visited the village and made provided food and polythene sheets.  

Nembu creek flooded many villages and Bilaparia, Uttakchhak, Biruan, Mala, Tina and Naigan were water-logged while rain water has flooded the NH-5.

Remuna MLA Gobinda Chandra Das and many other people’s representatives have provided some relief material to the affected people,

According to reports from Bhograi, many low-lying areas under Bhograi block have been waterlogged, making life miserable for the people. While many villages were surrounded by stagnant rain water, people in certain villages had to suffer untold miseries after rain water entered their houses.

Many houses in Jhadsimulia in southern part of Bhograi have reportedly collapsed. Families of Radhashyam Bej, Subodh Chandra Gayan, Ramesh Chandra Bej and others have been rendered homeless and have taken shelter at Jhadsimulia primary school.

Besides, several other thatched houses have developed cracks while rain water is passing over some roads and disrupted communication.

Basta recorded 112 mm rainfall; Bhograi 85mm; Jaleswar 78 mm and Baliapal 76mm. Locals demanded immediate relief for the people affected by incessant rainfall.

Due to low pressure, the sea has been rough. Huge waves are lashing the coast along Udaypur and Talsari under Bhograi. Two fishing boats were damaged by massives waves while hundreds of casuarina trees were uprooted at Talsari.

Sea water has reportedly entered hectares of farmlands in Sahabajipur, Huguli, Gochhida Teghara, Sradhhapur, Kanjibhaunri, Narayan Mohanty Padai, and Kumbhiragadi panchayats.   PNN
