Bhubaneswar, Dec 25: Rakesh Pradhan emerged champion of the Vth MIET Cup All Orissa Open Snooker Championship, beating his much higher rated opponent Asutosh Padhy in the final at the Vintage Club here Thursday.
Rakesh caused a major upset, when he edged past Asutosh 6-4 (52-60,3-73,16-71,35-44, 65-62,61-12,58-5,56-46,56-22,76-47) in the nail-biting final. Coming from behind, Rakesh performed splendidly to outshine Asutosh. Asutosh won four consecutive sets initially, but Rakesh bounced back in style and dominated till the end, winning six sets in a row.
The champion received the trophy along with cash award of Rs 20,000 and the runners-up took home Rs 10,000 and a trophy as well.
