Ramdev wants Naveen, Modi join hands

Dama Rout suggests Yoga guru should join politics

Bhubaneswar: Noted yoga guru Baba Ramdev Wednesday suggested Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should join hands to boost development in the state.

Speaking to media persons here, Ramdev said, “Since I am a Yoga guru, I believe in unity. I wish Naveenji and Modiji should join hands together for the development of Orissa and its people.”

His statement added fuel to the rising speculation of possible alliance between BJP and BJD in the next general and Assembly elections due in 2019. The speculation has started making rounds after the recent meeting between BJD president and CM Naveen Patnaik and state BJP’s face and Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The yoga guru, who was here to attend a convention of the Patanjali distributors, also said, his organisation Patanjali would undertake educational activities in the state in the coming days.
“It is the responsibility of the state government to introduce Yoga in schools. But, Patanjali Yoga Pith will set up an Acharyakulam in the next one or two years. We will also set up a university here,” Baba Ramdev said.

He also praised the Chief Minister saying, “Naveen Patnaik is an educated and a well performer. I hope Orissa would grow further under his leadership.”

Commenting on Ramdev’s statement on possible alliance, BJD vice president and Cabinet minister Damodar Rout said Ramdev should quit yoga and join politics.

“Before giving such proposal, Ramdev should acquire knowledge about the Constitution. He should know that India is a federal country and having 30 states. Whoever is the PM should treat all states equally. Instead of making such statements, Ramdev should persuade the PM to help Orissa like other states,” Rout added.

A few days ago, Naveen had ruled out any possible alliance between BJD and BJP and stated that his party would stick to its policy to maintain equidistance from Congress and BJP.
