Rana torments Odisha bowlers

Odisha batsmen Govind Poddar (L) and Anurag Sarangi return to pavilion after the end of third day’s game at KIIT Ground in Bhubaneswar, Saturday   

Bhubaneswar: Himanshu Rana (164, 231b, 25×4) scored a scintillating century to help Haryana grab a crucial first innings lead of 118 runs against hosts Odisha in an Elite Group-C encounter at the KIIT University Ground here Saturday.

At stumps Odisha were 50/1 in their second essay with out of form batsman Sandeep Pattnaik (6) going to the pavilion. First innings centurion Anurag Sarangi (17 n o) and experienced Govind Poddar (22 n o) were at the crease. Odisha were still trailing by 68 runs with nine wickets in hand.

Earlier In reply to Odisha’s first innings total of 324, the visitors resumed from 239/3. Rana dominated proceedings with an array of shots to all parts of the world. Pramod Chandila (53) and Harshal Patel (72) also scored half centuries to rub salt to Odisha’s wound. Debabrata Pradhan (3/96) was the pick of the Odisha bowlers.

Now Odisha batsmen have to play carefully on the fourth and final day to avert defeat.
