Cuttack, Sept 28: Orissa will start their Ranji Trophy campaign against Vidarbha at the Vidarbha Cricket Stadium, Nagpur, October 1-4. Under coach Debashis Mohanty and newly-appointed batting coach Rashmi Ranjan Parida the team is aiming for a positive start. The squad led by Biplab Samantray left for Nagpur, Sunday.
In the past, Orissa and Vidarbha have so far played four matches against each other with both sides winning once outright. “Both teams are equally balanced this time and a close match is on the cards,” stated skipper Biplab.
“Our strength is seam bowling. Our seamers are performing consistently since the last few seasons. But our batting is still a concern for us. We are not being able to perform to our potential department. This is one area where we have to work on,” Biplab stated.
Chief coach Debashis Mohanty emhasised on a positive start. “Vidarbha are a strong team. But we have a good team combination this time. We will try our best to put them under pressure from the very beginning,” stated Debashis.
Orissa in Group B
BCCI will organise the U-19 Women’s Super League cricket tournament starting October 5-19 with the matches being played at Guntur (Group A) and Cuttack (group B). The semifinals and finals will be played at Cuttack. Orissa incidentally, are in Group B. The 10 league matches will be played, October 5-12 while the semifinals and final will come off October 16 and 19 (Ravenshaw Ground) respectively. Orissa coach Rashmita Mohanty exuded confidence that the team will perform well in the upcoming tournament.
