Rayagada, March 23: Eight contractual lecturers appointed on contractual basis in Rayagada industrial training centre (ITI) have expressed apprehension that they may lose their jobs because of the negligence of the college principal.
The lecturers also alleged they have not been paid for the last one year though a contractual lecturer should get `100 per hour for theory classes and Rs 70 per hour for practical classes.
The lecturers pointed out that they have been serving at the ITI since November 2013 and had been appointed during the tenure of his predecessor Manmath Majhi. However, soon after taking charge as the principal of the college, Arun Kumar Mohapatra had conducted interviews July 31, 2014, for appointing contractual lecturers, they said.
These eight had given the interview and had been appointed along with eight others. But, the other eight had resigned from their posts for different reasons.
In March 2014, the director of technical education, Orissa, had written to the principal asking for a detailed report on the number of contractual lecturers in the college. However, the college authorities have not responded to the letter till date, they claimed. As a result, the director of technical education recently appointed five contractual lecturers in the college, leading to a fear among the others that they may lose their jobs.
The contractual lecturers have thus urged the college authorities to apprise the director of technical education about the matter and take steps to save their jobs. They warned that they would stage a dharna outside the college if steps are not taken to address their concerns.
Mohapatra said that he had received the letter from the director of technical education in March last year but had not sent the list as classes were not being taken. He refused to comment further on the issue. Meanwhile, collector Jagannath Mohanty said that he would take steps to resolve the issue after holding discussions with the principal.
