Malkangiri, June 3: Over 150 persons of 60 families of Andrapalli panchayat, who had left their homes a month ago after getting threats from Maoists, met district superintendent of police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra demanding security and rehabilitation Wednesday.
According to sources, the government had deployed police personnel at several places to make Malkangiri free of Red menace.
Despite this, the ultras had managed to sneak into several villages including Jantri, Dishariguda, Sanyasiguda, Kadiaguda, Dabuguda, Kusumpadar, Ropadar, Ramguda, Andrapali, Dhakadpadar and Basapadar and beat up the residents.
The ultras had also threatened the villagers to leave their ancestral lands forever. Failing to withstand the oppression, members of about 60 families in these 11 villages under Andrapalli panchayat had left the villages and were wandering without homes for the last one month.
Wednesday, the villagers met the SP and demanded establishment of a BSF camp in the panchayat. Besides, the villagers also urged the SP for their rehabilitation and aid for making them self-reliant.
“We have left behind everything including our farmlands, cattle and properties. We are scared for our lives now. We will return to our villages after the administration guarantees our security,” Shyam Panti of the panchayat said. Bishu Muduli, Sonu Khil and Dhana Khara reiterated the same. Nearly 60 villagers of Panasput and Andrapalli panchayats had met collector D Prashant Kumar Reddy a fortnight ago with similar complaints.
